Nina Talks This Week’s Steamy Sex Scene

7 Dec

“First, Jeremy getting trapped in the tomb was like, Katherine wins! When Stefan came in, she’s like, ‘Wow, I couldn’t have planned this better if I tried. The one person I want to be stuck with, here he is, and now he’s got nowhere to go. I will seduce him, I will tease him, I will anger him.’ The line between love and hate truly is very, very thin,” Dobrev says. “So she has a chance to egg him on, and he can’t do anything about it. He has no choice but to listen, and yeah, it is a very kind of sexy, manipulative scene, and he gives in. It’s pretty crazy.”

“I especially have been thrown around the set on a number of occasions,” Dobrev concedes with a laugh. “They try to make sure we’re safe when we do those things, but we as actors can’t help but get into it. We want to feel the pain. We want to make it real. So sometimes, we go overboard and slam each other a little too hard. Like that scene in particular, they padded it a little bit, but you can only do so much before you actually see the padding. It was a lot of throwing around.” So she sported some bruises afterward? “Oh, I have bruises on a daily basis. I always have bruises on my body. I’m black and blue all over,” she says. “Thank goodness for Arnica.”

“Elijah (guest star Daniel Gillies) makes an unexpected appearance with an offer that could change everything.” Elena wanted to sacrifice herself last episode to spare the lives of her friends, who are trying to save her from Elijah (and the as-yet-unseen Klaus). Will Elijah work that angle? All Dobrev will say is this: “Elena is in a predicament in the sense that she has a challenge, and she is out of control for the first time in a long time. When Elijah comes into her life on this day, it’s even more challenging, and tempting. Elena is the one who has to make a decision, and this time, she’s not in control, which is very frustrating for her. Elena doesn’t like to not be in control.”

Dobrev agrees that the introduction of Elijah and the concept of The Originals has been great for the show. “It’s gonna keep getting gorier and better and darker,” she says. “It adds a whole other layer. As difficult as it was for all the characters before, now they’re faced with an even more epic danger. Everyone is at risk.” But not Katherine, right? She won’t be getting a stake in the heart anytime soon, we hope. “I can’t imagine what the show was before Katherine came around,” Dobrev says. For a second, you wonder if that’s the sleep-deprivation from her schedule playing the doppelgängers for half a season talking. But it’s not. “If she ever left, I think that would be a really big mistake. She’s like another Damon,” she continues, “but now Damon is getting a lot softer, and you still need that kind of playful bad character.”

Portrait Magazine’s 20 Most Beautiful Inside & Out

4 Dec

NINA DOBREV is our #10 Most Beautiful Inside & Out in Portrait Magazine.

“I am who I am, and I don’t want to change, or do anything except feel fresh and happy…You have to keep yourself healthy and…sometimes you wake up and you don’t feel so great but as long as you’re taking all the measures that you can to make yourself look and feel your best, that’s what’s most important.” – Nina Dobrev

If you’re like the majority of the population that is hooked on vampires, chances are you’ve probably heard of Nina Dobrev, one of the stars of the the CW’s hit television show “The Vampire Diaries”. The talented Bulgarian beauty has two roles on the show: Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce. Nina was discovered by talent agencies while attending the Dean Armstrong Acting School in Toronto, Canada. Before her television show jobs, she modeled and was a regular fixture in commercials. It was no surprise that Nina would move on to acting and show the world how beautiful she was.

Even though Nina vamps it up on the small screen, she has a great sense of humor, vivacious personality, and loads of perseverance. Nina has been known to pull pranks on her fellow castmates, but also encourages them to spend time together and just have fun. Her determination also kicked in when she sent an audition tape to the producers of “The Vampire Diaries” after she auditioned for them in person! Nina also remembers her roots and her life before stardom. She worked for the things that she wanted by delivering newspapers and selling clothes at the mall. Nina is also eternally grateful for her supportive fans and has said that it is their enthusiasm that keeps her going.

Nina’s sweet charm and outgoing nature have helped her become the most sought-after starlets of the moment. She has found her way into our hearts with her down-to-earth nature and humbleness. “Every morning, I think to myself, ‘This is so cool. I’m so lucky.’ I don’t want to let it slip away…I’m in such a great position. I live a lovely life,” says Nina.

Why You Chose Her:
Saskia Bruisten: She is a kind, generous person with a positive attitude. She doesn’t let the fame get to her head and a very hard worker (she plays the part of Katherine and Elena in the Vampire Diaries, which gives her more screentime than any other person on the show), making twelve hour days. She’s an inspiration to a lot of young adults, particulary because she embraces her curves and shines no matter what she wears or how many make-up she’s got on her face.

Nina Says Vampire Hours Are Crazy

3 Dec

NINA DOBREV has admitted that she works “crazy” hours on The Vampire Diaries.

The actress plays the roles of vampire Katherine Pierce and doppelganger Elena Gilbert in The CW series and spoke to the Vancouver Sun about the workload.

“I’m not sleeping very much,” she confessed. “The hours are pretty crazy and I’m working a lot; I’m actually becoming a vampire in my own right.”

However, she added: “But it’s great – it’s a really great opportunity that I’ve been given.”

Discussing the differences between the two characters, Dobrev said: “As Katherine, I can get away with a lot more and say a lot more and be a little bit more edgy and bad. She has a very playful personality. As soon as I put on the heels and they start curling my hair, I’m in the zone.

“As Elena, it’s the same thing: I put on the Converse and jeans and a T-shirt, and I feel like this strong young woman, figuring herself out. That’s who she is: she’s figuring herself out and she’s growing.”

Vampire Diaries “The Sacrifice” Recap

3 Dec

I waited so long for this and it was definitely worth the time. We’ve seen so many sacrifices in this episode. First, Elena decides to sacrifice herself than risk Klaus killing her whole family and the ones she loves, she will give herself to him so only she will die. Once Damon hears about Elena’s plan, he rushes to her and threatens to hurt her unless she leaves with him. Elijah gushes in but not taking Elena with him, he even killed off the other vampires and leaves.

At the tomb, Jeremy makes a very dangerous decision to take the Moonstone from Katherine. Not as well planned the ashes’ effect on Katherine doesn’t last long and Jeremy is blood sucked. This leads Stefan to make the ultimate sacrifice. Katherine starts biting Jeremy again, so Stefan runs into the Tomb and saves Jeremy. The problem is Vampires couldn’t leave the tomb once in it so that leaves Stefan stuck…with Katherine.

So what did you think of last night’s episode?

Nina Dobrev Chats With Dose

30 Nov

NINA DOBREV chats with Dose about Vampire Diaries.

“I’ll be honest: when I first read the pilot synopsis, I remember thinking, ‘Oh, this is just Twilight on TV,’” the 21-year-old Canadian says during one of her few days off from filming in Atlanta. “Then I researched and realized it was much more than that. We began shooting and it kind of grew a life of its own. It’s such a huge departure from how it originally came across.”

The first few episodes of The Vampire Diaries followed the standard vampire formula: young Elena (Dobrev) meets and falls for Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley), unaware that he’s a centuries-old vampire – or that his brother, Damon (Ian Somerhalder), is similarly afflicted and has been attacking the town’s residents. But once Elena discovered the Salvatores’ true nature, The Vampire Diaries let loose, employing a breakneck pace of storytelling rarely seen on other shows (ahem, Lost).

Events that could take weeks to develop on another series instead occur within a single episode (or less) on The Vampire Diaries. Elena gets kidnapped? She’s rescued within the next 20 minutes. Stefan discovers a terrible secret about Elena’s past? He shares it with everyone immediately so they can determine a plan of (literal) attack. Now in its second season, The Vampire Diaries is enjoying great ratings and even better reviews – many of which begin with, “You’re not going to believe it, but…”

“You always hope that a show will be successful and it will do well and people will watch it and love it, so we always had hopeful expectations,” Dobrev says. “And then when the show premiered, it started doing well and had a good response, we were absolutely thrilled. It’s just been going strong since then; the ratings have been consistent, people are still watching and I think it’s because we’re still delivering intense, jam-packed, sexy, dramatic, action-filled episodes.”

Describing the show’s writers as “masterminds,” Dobrev adds that The Vampire Diaries won’t let up on the action any time soon: “They’ve got a plan and I’m so confident in them. I know they’ve got a good, long plan for the show.”

That’s not to say that The Vampire Diaries sacrifices character development; rather, showrunner Kevin Williamson seems to have realized his actors’ talent and has written their characters accordingly. Dobrev and her costars are constantly acting out the devastating emotional consequences of living such dangerous lives: Stefan has shown to have a dark side, while Damon has struggled to confront both his feelings for Elena and his more destructive tendencies.

Dobrev has the added challenge of playing two characters: the well-meaning Elena, and Katherine, her evil vampire doppelganger who wouldn’t hesitate to snap the spine of an innocent bystander.

“As Katherine, I can get away with a lot more and say a lot more and be a little bit more edgy and bad. She has a very playful personality. As soon as I put on the heels and they start curling my hair, I’m in the zone,” Dobrev explains. “As Elena, it’s the same thing: I put on the Converse and jeans and a T-shirt, and I feel like this strong, young woman, figuring herself out. That’s who she is: she’s figuring herself out and she’s growing.”

And while Elena may not be as over-the-top as Katherine, Dobrev appreciates that she’s evolved beyond the sulky teenager who is constantly in danger.

“Elena started out as a very troubled young woman and throughout all the hardships and experiences of the last year and a half, she’s grown and taken on responsibilities. She’s becoming a strong, confident woman. She’s very courageous; if you ask me, she’s a very courageous individual. I wouldn’t be able to do half the things she’s dealing with.”

Of course, the extra work load can take its toll.

“I’m not sleeping very much!” Dobrev laughs. “The hours are pretty crazy and I’m working a lot; I’m actually becoming a vampire in my own right.

“But it’s great; it’s a really great opportunity that I’ve been given.”

The roles aren’t without their challenges: she admits that she sometimes struggles to understand Katherine’s motivations, especially her die-hard love for Stefan.

“I honestly don’t even know [why she loves him],” Dobrev says sheepishly. “They tell me that when I play Katherine, ‘Oh, she loves Stefan.’ ‘Oh, really? Why?’ ‘Don’t worry about it. She just loves Stefan.’ That’s what they tell me. I have to make up my own backstory and hope that it’s right.”

As for Elena’s relationship with the Salvatores, Dobrev praises its layered, complicated nature and commends the writers for not backing off for the sake of convenience.

“She’s with the two boys out of circumstance. They keep worming their way into her life and complicating it very much; as much as she loves them, they pose a lot of problems for her and her family – and her survival,” she emphasizes. “At the same time, you can’t help who you love. As much as she fights it, she has this undeniable chemistry with Damon and she has this love for Stefan. As horrible as it is and as much danger as it puts her in, she can’t get away from them.”

She adds: “And it doesn’t help that Damon’s constantly coming around and roping her into his life.”

The love triangle is so complicated, Dobrev says, that she can’t come close to answering the one question of every Vampire Diaries fan is asking: who should Elena end up with?

“Right now, I don’t know, because Stefan and Damon are so different – each one fulfills different needs or quenches a different part of Elena’s thirst,” she explains. “She’ll grow and change, and the things she needs from people change all the time. She’s still figuring it out. It depends on what kind of person she eventually becomes; that will determine what kind of person she’ll eventually need. I just don’t know.”

And if the writers have any idea, they’re not telling.

“They want to keep us on our toes as much as possible; they want us in the moment, just like our characters,” Dobrev says. “We live and play day by day, and we’re just as shocked and surprised as the viewers are by what happens next.”

Nina’s Real-life Doppleganger?

26 Nov

Can you tell who is who by looking at the picture? I barely can. NINA DOBREV (left) looks a lot like Victoria Justice (right). Could they be separated at birth? Well, no. There is a pretty striking resemblance in that they’re both brunette, gorgeous, and they both have a similar smile look. Stunning isn’t it? Victoria Justice recently posted this new photo of herself on her twitter using her iPhone.

I know right? She almost looks like Nina herself. It took me several minutes to finally realize it wasn’t Nina but none other than the teenage star who plays in Nickelodeon’s Victorious (Victoria Justice).

So, do you think Victoria is Nina’s doppelganger? Leave your thoughts below, peeps!

Double Duty on Vampire Diaries

25 Nov

NINA DOBREV chats with torontosun.com and tells her double duty as Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce on Vampire Diaries.

“I called my mom, and she and I translated it,” Dobrev said of the Bulgarian dialogue in the episode titled Katerina.

“I think the writers had used an internet translator and it was so funny. All those online translators are never right. So we did it. I translated my own dialogue, but I called my mom just to confirm I was right.

“I worked really, really hard on that (episode),” added Dobrev, on the phone last week during a rare day off from shooting. “I really got to play the four different characters. And it was great to play the innocence of pre-vampire Katherine, when she was just a normal human.”

Dobrev has been particularly busy with dual roles this season on The Vampire Diaries, which airs Thursdays on CW and A.

When Dobrev mentioned “four characters,” she wasn’t exaggerating. There’s Elena; there’s modern-day Katherine; there’s 1800s Katherine, seen many times in flashbacks; and now 1400s Katherine and her Bulgarian dialogue has been added to the fray. With regard to all the heavy lifting, Dobrev said she’s fortunate everything has happened gradually.

“I’ve done it in small baby steps,” Dobrev said. “I’ve been given a lot of opportunities in different parts of my life, starting in Toronto with Degrassi, then the bit parts in movies that I did, and now The Vampire Diaries.
